This is the Place

2 weeks ago Kiera and I went to "This is the Place Heritage Park" in Salt Lake. This is the spot at the bottom of Emigration Canyon where Brigham Young declared that this was the valley the saints were to settle in after there long Exodus from Nauvoo. Kiera had never been there before and I hadn't been since 1997. Kieras family recently got a season family pass there so we decided to take it and go check it out.

The park is set up to resemble the buildings and such that the Pioneers would have lived in. There are many original Log cabins as well as replicas of some of the homes of prominent Church leaders such as Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball. They also have many stores set up where you can participate in Pioneer type activities and see what the stores would have looked like in the 1800's.

They also have a couple "rides" there. They have a mini train that takes you around a small lake as well as pony rides and a larger "train" that’s built out of a truck that takes you around the park and the tour guide tells you about it.

Overall we had a lot of fun. I really enjoy learning about church history and hearing the old stories and stuff. It was interesting to see what the Pioneers had to go thru and I don't know if I could do it. It really humbles you. If you've never been to the park its worth checking out. I was surprised that we were there for 5 hours and still didn't see everything. Most the houses and businesses there have tour guides in the houses to tell you about it. I honestly don't care for that but I guess some people do. Anyways they have a Halloween event there as well so we plan on going back when that is taking place to check it out.

Outside the park they have a huge monument built (pictured above) to honor not only the LDS saints who established the Salt Lake Valley but also all the explorers and traps man who had a history in discovering the Salt Lake Valley and other parts of Utah. It tells each of there stories regarding utah which I thought was really cool. There is also this Statue of Brigham Young with Joseph Smith. You always hear about Joseph prophesizing that the saints would be driven out of Nauvoo and settle in the rocky mountains. But this statues has about 8 different accounts of different times Joseph made the prophesy. Its truly amazing how great of a prophet Joseph was to prepare Brigham for the exodus the saints would undertake after his death.

Seven Peaks Water Park

This past Monday our Summer Monday Adventures led us to Seven Peaks Water Park in Provo. Its probably been over 10 years since I last went to Seven Peaks which is said to be Utahs biggest water park. Kiera use to go with her family every summer so we decided to go down to provo and have some fun in the sun for the day.

Seven Peaks has alot of fun water slides. If you go I highly recommend getting a 2 person tube if you can cause you are able to do every slide with that tube. The have many slides from slow but fun tube slides to more extreme ones like the almost strait down speed slides and half pipe slides. I didn't think that we would be able to fill a hole day at the water park but we did. The water is pretty warm and comfortable unlike how Lagoon-a-Beaches was.

I had to work in the morning for a couple hours so Kiera meet me at my work and then we were on our way to Provo. We made a stop in Orem at the Ihop to get some breakfast to hold us over for the day since Seven Peaks doesn't allow outside food in the park. While we were there we happened to be seated next to a table of and In-n-Out executive discussing the plans for the Orem In-n-Out with people who looked like developers. So those of you in the Orem area keep an eye out for In-n-Out coming to your neck of the woods soon.

After we stopped and saw my Dad at his work we were off to the park for a fun filled day of slides and swimming. Kiera's Aunt Jan and her kids as well as her Aunt and Uncle Crystal and RJ and there kids came and meet us down there later in the day as well. We had alot of fun with them as well and Kiera especially had fun playing with little Olivia.

We had alot of fun and look forward to going back again next year. I highly recommend going if you havn't. Theres plenty to do for those of all ages. The Halfpipe slide is so intense and I hope next time maybe I will get the courage to try one of the steaper body slides. After a long day with some major blisters on the bottom of my feet we were done. We stopped by and saw Kiera's friend Kayla who is going to BYU and got some dinner and some frozen Yougart. We also stopped by my Dads new place and then made the long drive back home.
