The Carnival Glory. Part 3

Well i'm finally back with another installment from our vacation. This one is going to tell all about our Ship the Carnival Glory and the things we did while onboard.

On embarkation day we drove out to Port Canaveral where our ship was and is about an hours drive from Orlando. I couldn't belive the size of the ship. It was much larger then the Carnival Pride that we sailed on last year for our honeymoon. Getting on the ship was alot faster here then it was in California as well. The first night we pretty much just wondered around the ship finding where things were after our lifeboat drill.

That first night we spent some time walking around the upper decks of the ship. We also got Kieras favorite thing about cruises. The Ice Cream. All this before heading down to the welcom aboard show where Kiera got picked out of the audiance to go up and dance lol. Her reward for doing so? A bottle of Champaign.

Because we were in Nassau for such a short time it felt that we had 1 1/2 days at sea. Both these days were pretty much filled by laying out in the sun trying to get a tan and by eating lol. We did swim a little bit as well though and watched a movie in our cabin those nights. The night we were in Nassau was also our first formal dinner night. Kieras video from the night before also aired on a continuous loop on the TV as well it seemed like.

One thing about cruises is that you will never go hungry. There is so much food and it is so accessable to you that you shouldn't ever starve. From the Breakfast and Lunch Buffets to a served in Courses large Elegant Dinners the food is to die for. And its not cheap crap ether. The food is actually really really good. I sure took advantage of it usually ordering 2 main dishes for dinner each night as well as getting midnight pizza. We are torn about what dinner time we like though. 6pm or 8:15pm. Both had there advantages. However I think for our next cruise we are going to go back to the later dinner.

Cruises always have plenty of entertainment going on as well. From a large production type show in the main theater each night to little trivia games in some of the lounge areas there is always something to do to keep you entertained. Our ship also had these break dancers that would do a small show thru out the day and the Glory is also trying out a comedy club that we went to each night.

One thing that sucked is that we didn't get the $200 in onboard credit like hotwire said we would. When I called they told me that it was because we booked the early saver rate. So whatever. I guess I won't be booking anymore cruises with Hotwire. That didn't stop us from having some fun on the ship though. We still bought some suveniors, played bingo, and tried a Virgin Strawberry Daquari.

While in St. Thomas Kiera happened to step on a Sea Urchan. Her toe hurt and burned pretty badly and then started to swell pretty bad. We debated having the docter on the ship look at it because it cost $80. She finally wanted to see a nurse about it though and luckly the nurse didn't charge us and told Kiera what to do to help it get better.

The nights we were back on the ship after St. Thomas and St. Marteen we had more fun roaming the ship, eating good food, watching great shows, and just having a great time.

Our second full day at sea consisted of pure relaxing and being lazy. We laid out and tried to get some sun again. This was probably the laziest day of the trip lol. But it was nice to just kick back and relax. This day was also our Second Formal Dinner night.

Our third and final day at sea was another lazy filled day of laying out and relaxing. I also walked the ship and took pictures of the ship this day. We really liked the themeing of this ship. Unlike our last one wich was a Reninsance type thing with old paintings and statues everywhere of naked people this ships them was "world of colors". So there was alot of colors everywhere making it bright and vibrant.

On our last cruise we booked a balcony room. We decided to try and make this cruise as cheap as possible so we just booked an interior room. We thought it was going to be pretty small but we were suprised when we saw that it was pretty large and probably just a little smaller then our balcony was. However the Blacony was nice and our next cruise we may get another one.

We also love the Towel animals that the room steward would leave everynight after turning down our room.

The rest of the day was fun. We laid out some more, ate more food, went to some shows and such. At the game show Tyler got picked to go up and be in the game. He ended up winning as well and also won a bottle of champaign. Because we obviously have no use for champaign Kiera and Tyler randomly gave there bottles away to people we found on the lido deck.

Our last night it was very stormy. The boat was rocking pretty good and there was lightning all around us. Once the rain let up some we went on top though to watch the lightning. It was amazing out there on the ocean watching it all around us. While watching it we saw a red flair light up out on the ocean. The spotlight from the cruise ship then started trying to find it and it did. For the next 2 hours we watched the crew of the Carnival Glory rescue the men on this ship. From what I was able to find out from reading online is that there were 3 men on the ship. 2 from the bahamas and 1 us citizen. I guess they went fishing and had engine falure and got washed out to sea. They were out there for 5 days before we finally found them. It was quite the site to watch and see how these rescue procedures take place. One account said that the mens small boat capsized a few minutes after they were rescued.

Embarkation the next day went pretty quickly. I was really suprised considering we were 2 hours late into port because of the rescue the night before. Even getting off the ship was a much quicker process then it was in Long Beach on our last cruise.

Overall we had a great time on the Carnival Glory. We thought everything about the glory was alot better then the Pride was except for in one area. The Layout. Since the Glory is much larger then the Pride they have 2 dining rooms. One smackdab in the center of the ship. So to get around it you had to ether go up or down a couple floors. Needless to say at times that sucked. Also the lower decks on the sides of the ship only had 1 door as well so you couldn't get around the dining room that way ether. One thing for sure is the Eastern Caribbean is an excellent cruise though which I highly recommend. I will discuss the ports more in there individule topics but we enjoyed all the locations we went to. We hope to make it back there again someday but we are wanting to do the Wester Caribbean next. If you havn't been on a cruise then try it out. In my opinion its the best bang for the buck vacation you can do. Considering the cost of it covers your room, all your food, Entertainment, and multipule vacation locations it is well worth the cost. Plus they treat you like royalty on the cruise ships. Everything is catered to you. We already can't wait until our next one whenever that will be.
